It took me a while to write about Maybe Someday. This book is just good, superb, or whatever word it is. What makes this book different is it comes with a soundtrack album. The songs in the album are incorporated into the story. So you can actually listen to the songs that are used in the book. I suggest you to just dive in to this book without knowing too much about it. No need to worry if you’ve read the summary or premise from goodreads or the one in the start of this post. It’s only the tip of the iceberg. Even with that information already in your mind, you’ll still find surprises within the story.
Maybe Someday talks about infidelity. Some people might feel uncomfortable reading about that, but in my opinion Hoover handles that topic nicely. The closest thing to this book that I could think of is Something Borrowed. Except that in Something Borrowed, it’s easy to put the blame on Darcy (the one being cheated on) since she’s an unlikable character (although it’s still wrong to commit adultery whatever the reason is). While in this book, it wouldn’t be that easy. Colleen Hoover put you in a grey area where it’s difficult to decide whether it’s right or wrong. It confused me like hell and that frustrated me.
Maybe Someday is an emotional read for me. It’s sad and painful, but it also has moments that will make you swoon over the character (or to be more specific, Ridge). Hoover’s writing is easy to follow. Everything is planned in a subtle way that I wasn’t realized it’s intended to be that way. Details that I thought are only decorative turn out to be meaningful and give the characters more depth. At some point the characters feel too perfect, yet the situation they’re in and how they react to make them more realistic. I almost forget that they’re not real. I root for Sidney, I fell in love with Ridge, and I had fun with Warren and Bridgette.
This book stays with me. It will always stay with me. There’s just too much emotion in this book. I was even afraid to read the ending. A part of me wants this book to end as I expected. However, another part of me doesn’t want that, because that would conflict things that I believe in. This constant indecision feeling is what frustrated me. It was too intense. In the end, it doesn’t really matter. I was crying so hard that it doesn’t really matter what happens to them as long as they’re happy. That’s just how much I care about the characters.
I really recommend this book. If you want to try reading New Adult, Maybe Someday is an excellent start. I also love the soundtrack. Especially the one titled Maybe Someday. It’s a perfect summary of this book. It’s a beautiful song and is able to describe the emotional struggle that the characters have. I’m intrigued to read Colleen Hoover’s other books.
